On the eve of her 13th birthday, C.J. Shaw is forced to leave her free wheeling city life behind, moving with her mamma to a small southern town, where her beloved great aunt Vesta is dying. It?s 1950?s Alabama, and the civil rights movement is still a distant dream. But there are new friends to make and new ideas to explore, and C.J. quickly finds herself drawn into the gentle rhythm of this sleepy town.
